Student Assistantships and Other Student Employment Opportunities
F&ES Student Assistantships
The School awards over ninety F&ES Student Assistantships as a part of financial aid. These positions vary from clerical work to research, editorial or library work. Eligible students can earn $15 per hour and are limited to 10 hours per week. THese awards are included in a student's finanical aid package, and only those students receiving these awards are eligible for the F&ES student assistantship positions coordinated and publicized through the Financial Aid OFfice. Students who applied for finanicial aid but did not receive an F&ES STudent Assisstantship based on limited positions may request the Director of Financial Aid to be place the student in the Student Assistantship Wait Pool. If positions are availalabe in October, students in the waitpool will be notified and can then apply for any open positions.

University Student Employment opportunities are listed at the Student Employment Office at 246 Church Street, or on the SEO website. Positions are available throughout the University and the City of New Haven, with hourly rates ranging from $11 to $15.
Teaching Fellowships are not awarded as part of the financial aid package but are available at the University for qualified students. Interested students must contact professors or departments directly. The usual salary is $3,700 per term

Student Assistantships
Only students who receive a F&ES Student Assistantship in their financial aid award package ($4,200) are eligible for Student Assistantship positions in F&ES. These positions are listed in the Student Assistantship database.

Positions pay $15/hour for 10 hours/week for a total of $2,100 per semester. Student assistantships are only for the fall and spring semesters. Depending on thesupervisor’s needs, students can work more or less hours per week as long as the average is 10 hours/week. University policy does not allow students to work more than 19 hours/week unless on semester break.How Do I Find a Position?
- Download the Excel file (username and password required) to find a position of interest.
- If the position is available (marked OPEN), contact the supervisor listed in the database. For most supervisors, the easiest way to reach them is by email. Email addresses consist of the firstname.lastname@yale.edu.
- Phone numbers are also provided in the database; however, some professors may be difficult to reach since they may travel or conduct research in the field and have irregular hours in the office, especially during the summer months.
- Each supervisor will determine the application/interview process for that position.
How Do I Get Paid?
- Once a student accepts a position, s/he completes the Yale Student Employment W-4 and I-9 Forms (available from the Financial Aid Office or the F&ES Human Resources Office, Room 27, Sage Hall).
- The student must notify Linda Jacobs via E-mail with the supervisor’s name and planned start date.
- Time Sheets: Completed time sheets must be electronically signed weekly by 8:00 am Monday morning. Incomplete time sheets those submittted late will not be processed.
- Payment issues should be brought to the attention of the business office (Sage Hall, room 27). Please contact Florence Grandelli or Denise Mrazik.
- The University offers a Direct Deposit service. To request this service, complete a University Payroll Services Direct Deposit Request Form.
- Bring a completed form and a voided check to the Student Employment Office at 246 Church Street on the 2nd Floor, or the Yale University Payroll Office at 155 Whitney Avenue on the First Floor. It takes approximately two weeks to set up direct deposit.
